Winter 2008
Introduction
So many things happened here at By The Moon HQ last year that I don’t know where to begin. The kids started school full time, HQ moved out to Leesburg and the new Beta website was launched for the Virginia Academy. We are now working to iron out the rough edges and then expand the site to include calendars, newsletters, galleries and more.
Kudos
Kudos to Baby Ballerina. They were featured in the local news as the place to send your young ballerina. And now that everyone knows what I always new, it time to ramp back up on their project and bring their website to the next level.
Speaking about less time
The biggest thing to happen last year was the contract I landed with AOL. Yes I am the User Interface Designer for the Mobile Channel in Commerce & Marketplace. It is an exciting opportunity to be specializing in the area of UI because it is, in fact, what I enjoy most about web design. It is a chance to really concentrate on the architecture and user experience and leave the visual design and development to other specialist. Although I do still enjoy vis and dev, UI gives me the opportunity to dream up of the possibilities of what a website can do… and then have the resources to have it happen.
My work with AOL can be viewed at:
mobile.aol.com - which has been completely revised from last year.
wap.aol.com/shopping — the brand new mobile shopping channel which lets you search for products at stores near you.
shopping.aol.com — the new AOL member reviews which launched yesterday.
Changes for By The Moon
The only real change for the Moon is that I won’t be taking on any new projects for a while. Between the school, dance studio, and AOL, I’m pretty well booked up.
Help Request
I am working on a new system to help notify me when BTM clients sends in an email. When you send me an email an alert will be sent to me through my task manager Rememberthemilk.com. I have this running all day and refer to in constantly. For this to work, however, I have to have your current email address. If the email address your going to be using is different from the one I sent this newsletter too, please let me know.
Email Tip
Is your email box overflowing? Are you having problems with spammers? Do you just want an easier more productive way to manage your email? Try hosting your email at Google Apps for your domain. I do love our hosting company, but I’ve learn hosting is for websites, email management is for the king of the email game Google. I’ve been managing my own email at Google for a year now and I am extremely happy with it. Along with both my personal and professional email, I’ve also moved trinisoul.com and voicetowords.com to Google Apps, and they are both very happy with their new email system. Interested? Let me know, set up takes only a few days.
